A few days after the disaster in Haiti struck my niece sent me a message. She had been up the night before trying to think of a way to help the people of Haiti. Her idea was to try to write a song for Haiti. With the ambitious hopes of finding someone to compose the music to it and share it with the world.
What a great idea. But why did she need me?
Apparently she needed me to help her write this poem/song. So I put pen to paper and started writing. She had told me a little of what she wanted in it. Something about a lady, Miss Haiti, and the struggles that she has faced over the years and now more than ever.
I thought about for a little while and once I was done writing this is what the finished product looked like.
We hope you enjoy!
Miss Haiti
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti her body is shaking
The world stops and glances but won’t take the chances,
She needs a good friend now, to help bring the pain down,
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti she’s alone and she’s waiting
She grew up in a world where the people walk by,
They might stop and might stare but would never give time,
She’s dirty, she’s filthy, she runs alone in the night,
Why would anyone help her, alone she must fight.
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti her body is shaking
The world stops and glances but won’t take the chances,
She needs a good friend now, to help bring the pain down,
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti she’s alone and she’s waiting
The waters rush in and sweep her away,
Some people take notice and helps on the way,
But the help doesn’t last, its only a show,
To make us feel better, yet she’s still all alone.
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti her body is shaking
The world stops and glances but won’t take the chances,
She needs a good friend now, to help bring the pain down,
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti she’s alone and she’s waiting
One thing after another, violence, rage in the streets,
Miss Haiti stands tall and digs in her feet,
More people are coming, to help and bring love
To show her compassion and raise her above
So she starts to feel better and feel the difference they make
But it all seems to vanish and stops and she Shakes,
Her legs become weary and her arms are to weak
She can’t take the pressure, her tears start to leak
Her friends are now missing, they’ve run or their gone
But Miss Haiti is still there, She must stand and be strong
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti her body is shaking
The world stops and glances but won’t take the chances,
She needs a good friend now, to help bring the pain down,
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti she’s alone and she’s waiting
So now is the time for the real help to pour in
Miss Haiti is drowning and needs her new friends,
A new beginning is coming, a brand new fresh start,
So we pray for Miss Haiti as she tugs at our heart,
We all feel her pain, yes, we see it, we do,
But we also must know that HE makes all things Brand New!
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti her body is shaking
The world stops and glances but won’t take the chances,
She needs a good friend now, to help bring the pain down,
Miss Haiti, Miss Haiti she’s alone and she’s waiting
